Solomon Kane is a character that was created by Robert E. Howard, the legendary author of Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja. He first appeared in a series of stories published in Weird Tales magazine in the 1920s and 1930s. He is a Puritan adventurer who wanders the world in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, fighting evil wherever he finds it. He is skilled in swordsmanship, marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat. He also has a strong faith in God and a sense of justice.
The film adaptation of Solomon Kane was in development for several years before it was finally made. The rights to the character were acquired by Davis Films, the company behind the Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises. M.J. Bassett was hired to direct and co-write the film, after impressing the producers with his debut feature Deathwatch (2002), a horror film set in World War I. James Purefoy was cast as Solomon Kane after auditioning for the role and undergoing extensive physical training.
The film was shot in various locations in England and the Czech Republic, with some scenes filmed at Barrandov Studios in Prague. The production design was inspired by the paintings of Caravaggio and Rembrandt, as well as the works of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel. The film used a combination of practical and digital effects to create the dark and gritty atmosphere of the story. The film also featured an original score composed by Klaus Badelt, who previously worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and Gladiator (2000). 061ffe29dd
